Constitution

The constitution sets-out ground rules for how the Union works and what it does.

This includes the rules for elections, meetings, clubs and societies volunteering and basically everything the Union does. The Constitution is decided by Student Representative Council and subject to approval by the University’s Board of Governors. All officers and members are expected to abide by the Constitution.

Policy

Policy to which MUSU adheres is voted by members at Student Representative Council, Annual General Meetings or at General Meetings.

These policies are tabled to the above meetings in the form of a motion or through a Referendum ballot. Motions are usually brought to change or add to Union policy, but motions to SRC meetings can also amend the Constitutional Regulations.

Policy refers to the direction of the Union and sets out the position of the Union on various matters. Policy may include affiliation to an outside organisation, changes to the way societies are organised or can even mandate the Union Officers to write to the local MP on a matter that is in the interests of students.

Current Policies as well as examples of motions can be found here (PDF)
